Legendary sculptor and painter Armand Vaillancourt will produce three 30’ paintings with the public. Come and pitch in!

Born in Black Lake, Quebec, Armand Vaillancourt was studied at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal. Sculptor, painter, performer, humanist, man of passion and liberty, he has left a mark in Québec’s history by his social commitments, sensitivity and generosity in regards to human rights. Already in 1954, his first public work, L’Arbre de la rue Durocher, revealed his originality. Live on the street, he sculpted a tree for two years, knocking over the
artistic standards of his time. He has since then produced more than fifty monumental and audacious works that can be found throughout the Americas: the Monument contre la guerre in Chicoutimi in 1959, Justice! (against Apartheid) for the Québec courthouse in 1983, El Clamor in Santo Domingo in 1985, Vaillancourt Fountain, the famous fountain at the Embarcadero Plaza in San Francisco in 1971 and River of life in Yellowknife in 1999. Vaillancourt received the prestigious Paul-Émile-Borduas prize in 1993 and has been named knight of the National Order of Quebec in 2004.
