PINOCCHIO # 10

Installation and theatrical performance PINOCCHIO # 10

The performance and installation Pinocchio # 10 is a black comedy, an inversion of the Pinocchio fable. In Carlos Collodi’s original story, the little boy made of wood desperately wanted to become human; in this installation/ performance, the little ‘doll’ is born a real girl, and rather than embrace her humanity, she desperately wants to become made of plastic, exactly like everyone else she sees in her life. Pinnochio#10 is separated into three “acts”: Birth, Life and Ultimate Plastification. Pinnochio#10 tells a modern horror tale from the confines of a giant Mattel box through the morbid curiosity and innocent eyes of early childhood. Surrounding her is an installation of other toy boxes occupied by dolls and other toys. Life size children’s dolls or actors will “live” in strategically positioned boxes. In each box, the stories of a child labourers or child sex workers are told. In some cases the stories of the child labourer are in line with products they are surrounded by.
