The artist collective EN MASE will create a large-scale collaborative black and white drawing, under the direction of Jason Botkin and Rupert Bottenberg. EN MASE brings together emerging artists who strive to reach a wide audience with unpretentious and accessible ideas and techniques, drawing from the diverse disciplines of fine art, graphic design, comics, illustration, graffiti, and tattoo art. The character of each project is defined by the many who take part in it and the energies they individually and collectively bring to the mix. EN MASSE is an ongoing series of artistic conversations, involving anywhere from 4 to 40 plus artists in the creation of spontaneous, large-scale collaborative black and white drawings. The shape and character of each specific EN MASSE event is defined by the many who take part in the project, and the energies they individually and collectively bring to the mix. Since its creation in 2009, under the direction of Jason Botkin and Rupert Bottenberg, EN MASSE has worked within numerous diverse environments such as art institutions, high profile public events, and as part of various corporate and private contracts. The development of powerful educational and community outreach programs has been a recent and very important step forward for the EN MASSE project. EN MASSE brings together emerging artists who strive to reach a wide audience with unpretentious and accessible ideas and techniques, drawing from the diverse disciplines of fine arts, graphic design, comics, illustration, graffiti, and tattoo art. Our mandate is twofold; firstly to increase the visibility of these young artists, both collectively and as individuals, and secondly, to foster community-oriented art events and a specific form of collaborative interaction amongst participants, in a spirit of play and a joy in creating.
