The 12th FIMA on the horizon

The FIMA is already near. The event is coming back for its 12th edition, which will take place from June 29 to July 3, 2011, in a shorter, simpler and more convenient 5-day format (instead of 11 days). The BoulevArt will unite over one hundred exhibitors from Europe, Asia and the Americas, and a section will be solely dedicated to the emerging artists. Many activities will be complementing the outdoor exhibition: performances, short film projections, live painting and numeric art events

PIERRICK GUGIC - Poster FIMA2011

THE FIMA 2011 POSTER

We found our poster through the Flaunt Yourself! contest, launched December 1. It was very successful as we have received over 113 propositions. Among them, 29% came from abroad: France, Martinique, Germany, Republic of Azerbaijan, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

A jury (1) met in February to choose the eleven posters that will be part of a special exhibition during the festival.

Among these eleven posters, three were selected to be submitted to the public vote online. Indeed, the organizers of the event decided to let the public make the final choice of what would be this year's poster. Over 1,000 people voted!

The poster which received the most votes was created by Pierrick Gugic, from France, who will get a prize of $1,000 in money, in addition to incredible visibility. Gugic is an independent designer, who founded his company in 2009. He works mostly for associations and promotes cultural events. His main inspirations are cinema and European comic books.

Metaphorical rather than descriptive, the image shows a female giraffe with a happy grin that, from the top of her long neck, sees the horizon opening up in front of her. Queen of the arts, she dominates the city during the festival. The throne on which she sits is the outline of a symbol: Mount-Royal. She is both actor and spectator of the FIMA: at the same time exposing herself and looking at the red carpet unrolling for the artists and the public on the BoulevArt.

The 2nd price of $300 has been won by Sel & vinaigre (Quebec), the workshop managed by these 2 young creators: Melissa Di Menna and Julien Bakvis.

The third prize had to be suppressed because of allegations of plagiarism by a Montreal artist.

Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to all participants!

(1) The jury was composed of Claire Crombez, artistic director for Galerie MX; Ashley Doucette Pilles, codirector of the Galerie Rye; Micah Lockhart, editor of Decover magazine; Sonia Léontieff, artist, designer and video maker, as well as Stéphane Mabilais, director general and Marie-Chantal Scholl, curator and communications manager for the FIMA.
